The 5 Most Visually Stunning PC Games

Four years after it was announced at the E3 2015, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be released this coming March 3, 2020. While the game remake will come to PS4 first, fans can look forward to next year when the game becomes available on other platforms.

Timed exclusives orchestrated by PlayStation such as this one showcase just how far we’ve come in terms of video game graphics.

The evolution of video game graphics spans several eras, from the simplistic vector graphics to four individual stripes stitched up together to form everyone’s all-time favorite Super Mario, and today’s high-definition video games that run at very high frame rates resulting in characters and worlds that are closer to reality.

While fans wait for Final Fantasy VII Remake to be available for PC, here are five equally visually stunning games they can play:

Hitman 2 by IO Interactive

The Verge’s review of Hitman 2 tagged the game as the most refined and rewarding one in the series as it pushes the franchise’s visuals to the extreme. This is done largely by stretching the locations to sunny Miami and densely crowded Mumbai streets. Walking, sleuthing and fighting as Agent 47, you will see your character leaving insanely realistic footprints on the sand and being covered by clumped seagrass that seems to come to life as you walk through it.

Hitman 2’s advertised reflection technology truly delivered, earning them a spot on the list of visually impeccable PC games. This impressive technology is showcased early on during the prologue level, where Agent 47 approaches a remote luxury home walled with glass. Not only will you see the moonlit sky reflected on glass doors and windows but also your own character’s reflection on top of the home’s interior, pretty much how you would in real life.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by CD Projekt Red

A game that is now finding wider fame as a Netflix show was already well known for its pioneering gameplay in the gaming industry. HP’s rundown of the PC games with the best graphics highlights The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

This multi-award-winning 2015 installment of the fantasy series is an open world and single-player game where you will play as the protagonist and monster hunter Geralt of Rivia, also known as the Witcher. In search of his “daughter” Ciri, who is being chased by the powerful riders of the Wild Hunt for her magical powers, the Witcher will encounter various creatures such as elves, werewolves, dwarves and many more.

The Witcher 3 is considered to be a visual triumph with its stunning vistas that include the windswept, heavily forested, and snow-capped Skellige Isles and a richly detailed Novigrad complete with brick-layered shops and thatched-roof cottages juxtaposed against impressive castles. The game also includes hair-raising, war-torn, and overgrown swamps that house human villagers and the other mythical creatures mentioned above.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey by Ubisoft Quebec

Playing as a mercenary either as Kassandra or Alexios, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will take you on an epic journey through ancient Greece at the time of the Peloponnesian War between the city-states of Athens and Sparta. You will be able to play through both mythical and historical locations such as the Temple of Apollo on Mount Parnassus and at the beautifully rendered statue of Zeus at Olympia.

As you clamber up temples and accurately made historical sites, push through bustling marketplaces, and cling to stone cliffs above azure seas, you will realize just how visually stunning the game really is. With vibrant lighting, crisp textures, and detailed distance layout of all of Greece, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey exudes visual extravagance that no other Ubisoft game can rival.

Red Dead Redemption II by Rockstar Games

Red Dead Redemption II is a game that even the most powerful graphics card of today have a hard time processing. You play as the outlaw and a member of the Van der Linde gang, Arthur Morgan, in a fictionalized representation of 1899 Western, Midwestern and Southern United States.

As Arthur, you must deal with the decline of the Wild West while attempting to run from the government forces, rival gangs and other adversaries.

As you play, you’d find yourself falling in love with the sceneries, its mornings, how the fog floats above the lake and envelops the camp in an enthralling glow. Red Dead Redemption II is definitely a seismic achievement with captivating vistas and realistic weather that dramatically shift and take you into an open world of impressive art.

The vistas of the game’s world were inspired by landscape paintings of various artists such as Albert Bierstadt. The developers utilized motion capture that records the performances of the cast as well as their reactions for later animation.

Far Cry 5 by Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Toronto

Forbes believes first-person shooter and horror game adventure Far Cry 5 to be one of the most controversial games released in recent years. Set in the fictional Hope County in Montana, the game takes you on a journey into America’s very own heart of darkness, where you play as an anonymous junior deputy sheriff tasked with taking down the influential cult leader Joseph Seed and his family of tyrants and sycophants.

Amid the action-packed gameplay, you will see yourself having plenty of opportunities to travel through vibrant valleys, steamy hot springs, and treacherous mountains. While hunting and fishing, you will be able to take a break and admire the county’s countless vistas, which include murky and deep lakes, twisting rivers, and towering pine trees that exude the ominous feeling that your thrill-seeking self would definitely love.

The upcoming release of the PlayStation 5 is sure to give us even more visually stunning games. Its backward compatibility may even inspire developers to get cracking on some of the games listed in ‘Top 10 Games That Deserve a Remake’. What games are you most looking forward to seeing remade into this generation of advanced graphics?
