What Game Modes Are Available in WWE2K23
[rank_math_breadcrumb]

The most recent installment of the WWE 2K franchise was released on March 17th, with WWE 2K23 finally hitting shelves and game libraries the world over. Vince McMahon’s giant professional wrestling circus has had a stellar year in real life, and their recent Elimination Chamber event in Montreal, Canada was the highest-grossing edition in the pay-per-view’s history. And 2K Sports couldn’t have picked a better time to release the new game.

That’s because the company is well and truly on the Road to WrestleMania, the biggest wrestling show of the year and perhaps the grandest spectacle in all of live entertainment. The New York-based games producer is attempting to capitalize on the excitement of fans the world over by releasing their game just two weeks prior to WrestleMania, which takes place on the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of April.

WrestleMania

The show will be headlined by the reigning and defending Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. He will square off against the 2023 Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes, and the challenger will have to put up a herculean effort if he is to take the title from the Head of the Table. That’s because the champion has held the gold for over 900 days. Reigns hasn’t been pinned or submitted since December 2019.

But nobody appears to have told the bookmakers that. That’s because online betting sites such as Bovada, which provides combat sports betting as well as casino games, have made the challenger a slight favorite for the bout. But it remains to be seen whether the American Nightmare can get the job done at SoFi Stadium.

In real life, The Tribal Chief may well be an unstoppable monster. And to be fair, he is in the game as well, with a perfect 99 out of 99 rating. But which game modes can you use Reigns and the rest of a stacked WWE roster in one of the most anticipated releases of the year, WWE 2K23?

My Faction

Where EA Sports games such as FIFA and Madden have Ultimate Team, WWE 2K23 has My Faction mode. The game, like Ultimate Team, is a card trading game that allows gamers to build their own team of wrestlers, or faction, as it’s known in wrestling terminology. Gamers can purchases loot boxes in an attempt to upgrade their faction, before competing against other gamers online for a plethora of rewards.

The game is relatively new to the world of WWE 2K, but the game’s producer has got it right this year. And with a number of legends available to add to your rosters such as The Rock, The Undertaker, and Goldberg, gamers will be piling onto My Faction mode as soon as possible.

My GM Mode

Before 2K Sports started producing WWE’s video games, they used to be produced by long-time developers Yuke’s and THQ. That duo combined to bring us the fantastic SmackDown vs Raw franchise throughout the 2000s and early 2010s. And back in the day, they used to have a mode called General Manager mode.

Since 2K Sports took over the franchise in the mid-2010s, GM mode went missing, but in the last few years, it has made a return. And this year, the game mode has been mastered.

My GM mode allows up to four players (human or AI) and allows managers to compete against each other in the battle for ratings supremacy. The game mode starts with the WWE Draft, and all four managers are able to draft in their primary roster. Then, as the game progresses, gamers are able to purchase free agents and legends to flesh out their roster.

The game mode provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the world of professional wrestling, something that iconic former champion The Undertaker said that modern wrestling fans were interested in during his recent appearance on Hot Boxin’ with Mike Tyson.

My Universe

My Universe mode is similar to My GM Mode however, rather than providing a behind-the-scenes look at the business, it allows gamers to focus on the wrestling rather than the money-making and ratings garnering.

Storytelling is the primary focus, alongside wrestling. Gamers can create their own storylines and play them through, allowing gamers and fans alike to fully immerse themselves in the wild, wacky, and wonderful world of WWE.

Showcase Mode

While WWE has the aforementioned GM and Universe Modes, it doesn’t have a career mode as such. That is where showcase mode comes in. Showcase mode allows gamers to play through the two-decade-long illustrious career of perhaps the greatest wrestler of all time and current Hollywood superstar, John Cena.

The Leader of the Cenation will be facing off against Austin Theory at the upcoming WrestleMania event, and many feel that the brash upstart United States Champion has been modeled on Cena. It remains to be seen whether Cena can halt the push of the current champion, or whether Theory will take over as the face of the WWE.

Other Modes

There are plenty of other game modes available in the game as well. Exhibition mode allows you to have matches against friends or the AI, while online mode is also available. Also, community creations is an absolute godsend and allows gamers to download other users’ creations, meaning that iconic wrestlers such as CM Punk will be created by the community and available for download.
